Dave Cook

Founder

Dave Cook is an experienced technology leader with over 30 years of expertise in advanced analytics, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). He currently supports AI/ML programs in the Defense Department and Intelligence Community and teaches Graduate Studies at the University of Maryland in Geospatial Intelligence and applications of AI/ML.

He founded the Training Data Project to promote trust in AI/ML data in the public sector through education, advocacy, standards, and open-source tools. Dave believes the data that fuels AI/ML must incorporate values such as integrity and accountability to build trustworthy human-machine teaming for all. He is a strong advocate for bringing diverse workforces to data labeling, and for providing job training and job growth opportunities to veterans, the neurodiverse, people with special needs and individuals who are working to rehabilitate their lives after addiction.

Throughout his career, Dave has focused on solving complex data and analytic challenges in different fields, including law enforcement, intelligence, defense, health, and leading corporations worldwide. He believes that scalable data infrastructure is crucial for gaining insights through new artificial intelligence and machine learning applications. An 18-time Marine Corps Marathon finisher, he is adamant that AI/ML is definitely more of a marathon than a sprint.

Dave is a civic hacker who works with the DC Data Science Community. He has experience working with large and small companies, government entities, and as a serial entrepreneur.

Dave has a Master of Science in Geospatial Intelligence from the University of Maryland, a Master of Science in Policy Analysis and Management Information Systems from Carnegie Mellon University- Heinz College, and a Bachelor of Arts in American History and Political Science from Northwestern University. He is an Advisory Board member for Quantic.edu and Capitol Technology University in Software Engineering. He also has certificates in Data Science and Advanced Data Science from Georgetown University.

Dave loves surfing, boxing, reading and is an avid runner. He resides in the DC Georgetown area with his wife Noami DeVore and their dog, Drake.
